Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The purpose of the activity was to offers the children in the Remand Home, whos everyday life partly gets hit from resignation and depression regarding their lack of freedom, a day of FUN, DANCE, GAMES, DELISCIOUS FOOD and POSITIVITY. We saw a lot of smiling faces and happy children on that day. The various activities empowered them to express themselves and their strenghs. At the same the the activity offered the different partners of Kisumu Childrens Remand Home the chance to interact and connect with each other.

JIHIMARISHE Festival at Kisumu Children’s Remand Home

Soulevement and their partners, including Better Me, organized a special Celebration Day at the Kisumu Children’s Remand Home, known as the JIHIMARISHE POST MASHUJAA DAY CELEBRATION. The day featured a range of activities catering to various interests, including mind games, physical fitness sessions, dancing, and a friendly football match between volunteers and the kids – plus a hot meal!

Schedule:

9:00 AM – 10:00 AM – Arrival: All participants arrived at the facility and registered to join the children.

10:00 AM – 10:30 AM – Introduction: Bush led the introduction of teams, comprising Soulevement, partners, and all participants. They were given an overview of the day’s program before the kitchen team resumed their duties.

10:30 AM – 11:00 AM – Mind Games/Ice Breakers: Donex led an engaging activity to get everyone in the right spirit.

11:00 AM – 11:30 AM – Physical Fitness: A full-body workout and stretches were led by Better Me and Soulevement, promoting physical well-being.

11:30 AM – 12:00 PM – Dances: George Boosh from Homeless of Kisumu led a lively dance session for body toning.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM – Lip Sync Battle: Bush conducted a Lip Sync Battle to test the children’s coordination of body and mind and foster team spirit.

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM – Lunch Break: All participants took a break to share a hot meal with the kids, enhancing the sense of togetherness.

2:30 PM – 4:00 PM – Football Game: The Remand Home team faced off against a combined team of volunteers and walimu (teachers) in an exciting football match.

4:00 PM – 4:30 PM – Closing Ceremony: The event concluded with a closing ceremony and awards presentation led by Gloria.

Better Me contributed to the event by assisting with cooking and facilitating the full-body workout and stretches. The JIHIMARISHE Festival was a day of fun, learning, and togetherness, leaving a positive impact on the children at the Kisumu Children’s Remand Home.

Achievements:
We achieved that the children experienced the Remand Home as a place of fun activities and loving care, which lead to happy and satisfied children at the end of the day.

Unanticipated Achievements:
A positive surprise was how engaged and motivated the kids were in participating in the activities and games.
