Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Discussed the concept of “truth” with the children in class, then we did an outdoor activity for fun and to symbolize the importance of telling the truth.
Personnel Input:
Vivian opened the lesson by discussing truth in broad terms, then shared a personal story to illustrate that the truth always comes forward to the kids.
I [Jake] then discussed what truth was – the opposite of a lie, being honest – and discussed reasons why it is important to tell the truth. This lesson included telling the kids the story about ‘the boy who cried wolf.’ Then I talked about three reasons why people might lie and other options the children have in those situations. Before going outside, I gave the children two pieces of advice on how to spot if somebody may be lying to them.
We then went outside and Vivian facilitated an activity where one child was blindfolded and had to find another child. The activity was also done where two children were blindfolded and had to find each other. This activity was meant to show the children how the truth is revealing, so when you do not know the truth you are ‘blind’ and when you are blind, life is much more difficult.
Achievements:
I believe the children really enjoyed the story about the boy who cried wolf and the outdoor activity.
