Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The topic of the lesson was emotional health, with a focus on what to do depending on how you’re feeling. The kids were able to learn about such a serious topic through games like hangman and charades. They were given tips on what to do when they’re feeling angry, sad, scared, disgusted, or happy.
Personnel Input:
The lesson started with a round of Hangman, where the kids had to figure out the topic of the day: Emotional Health. After a brief definition, the topic was divided into 5 categories of emotions. For each category, one kid had to act out the emotion and the others had to guess it. Tess explained each emotion and gave suggestions about what to do, for example when feeling angry. Additionally, she listed words that describe each of the feelings. The first emotion was anger, which makes someone feel a sense of injustice, followed by fear, where a person feels threatened and unsafe, then sadness, which happens as a response to negative or unexpected situations, disgust as a response to unpleasant or unwanted situations, and enjoyment, which happens when you feel relaxed or close and connected to people.
Achievements:
The kids learned how to talk about their emotions and how to describe them. Despite the topic being quite serious, they had fun playing the games.
Unanticipated Achievements:
Their interest in the topic was immense, and everyone paid attention. There was always someone ready to volunteer for charades, give a brief definition, or suggest a letter for hangman.
