Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The topic of this English class was the simple past tense. We introduced this topic to the students by explaining how and when to use it correctly. After this, we collected different verbs on the board and the students told us the form of the verb in the simple past. Then they learned how to form the negative form of the simple past. After we finished this, we played a little game with them called “4 Corner Guessing.” We finished the class by handing out a worksheet to help them practice what they have learned.

Personnel Input:
We introduced a new tense to them: the simple past. You use the simple past when talking about past events that have already happened. You can differentiate between regular and irregular verbs. As we collected the verbs on the board, we wrote them down in these two different categories. After this, the boys formed the past tense of the regular verbs first and then they tried to form the past tense of the irregular verbs as well. If necessary, we corrected them. After we finished this, we wiped everything off the board and Catharina explained the game “4 corner guessing”. One boy stays in each corner, so a total of four people play at the same time. Catharina shouts a verb in the base form and the boy who shouts the correct form of this verb in the simple past is allowed to go to the next corner. The boy who is the first in the corner where he started wins the game. As a little reward, we gave the winner a biscuit. After we finished the game, we handed out a worksheet to help them improve their knowledge about this topic. We ended the class by giving all of them a biscuit for their good participation.

Achievements:
The boys understood the topic really quickly and listened carefully to us. On top of that, they had a lot of fun during the class, and it turned into a great team-bonding experience as they hyped each other up during the game.

Unanticipated Achievements:
All the boys had a lot of fun during the class, especially during the game we played. They participated well, and most of their answers were correct. It was great to see that they already knew a lot about this topic.
