Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The International Day of Families is observed on May 15 each year. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 to reflect the importance that the international community places on families. The day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic, and demographic processes affecting families.

Personnel Input:
The Better Me team took part in a 5 km march across residential areas in Kisumu County, while passing on the message to the community around the central theme of IDOF “Families and Climate.”

Achievements:
The march raised awareness about the crucial role families play in addressing climate change, emphasizing sustainable practices that can be adopted at the household level. Participants distributed educational materials and demonstrated practical ways to reduce environmental footprints, fostering a collective sense of responsibility and empowerment among residents.

Unanticipated Achievements:
The visibility of the march attracted local media attention, which amplified the message beyond Kisumu County and inspired other communities to consider similar initiatives. This increased exposure helped to broaden the impact of the event, encouraging wider participation in future environmental and family-centered activities.
