Facilitators: Laura Coggiola, Spencer Akoth, Jule Schlageter
Number of Participants: 11
Male: 9 Female: 2
Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We started the lesson by introducing the new topic to the class, which was homophones. We gave the students different examples of homophones, and they tried to explain the meaning of each word in English. After this, the kids had to do fill-in exercises to strengthen their knowledge.
Personnel Input:
The topic of homophones is about words that sound the same but have completely different meanings, for example, “meat” and “meet.” First, we explained this to the kids and then we wrote different homophones on the board to discuss them. We also made an effort to encourage the quieter boys to participate in class. After the discussion, we handed out a fill-in exercise to teach the students the spelling of the words. We finished the class by correcting the exercise.
Achievements:
The students were able to use the newly learned words in sentences, create examples with different homophones, and improve their spelling and handwriting.
Unanticipated Achievements:
All the students practiced more speaking, especially the quieter boys. They understood the lesson quite well, and we could see the results in the exercise.
