Activity Purpose/ Summary:
I like to think that the opposite emotion of Love is fear. That while love makes us feel whole, present and grounded, fear gives us the illusion of loss, makes us live in our mind more than reality, leaving us feeling unanchored. In this session, it was important for us to understand how crippling fear can be in terms of it stopping us from reaching our highest potential. In understanding that fear is an illusion, we emphasized the need of “doing things afraid” and focusing on the experience of things we get to do rather than the outcomes of them.

Personnel Input:
Within nature, certain creatures exist that we fear terribly, yet these very creatures contribute as importantly as we do to the cycle of nature. For our art in this session, we got to allow the kids to draw an animal that they feared and while at it we highlighted their importance and contribution to nature, despite their deadly or scary demeanor.

Achievements:
We got the students to understand that fear is just an illusion and that to overcome it we should always be open to doing things scared.

Unanticipated Achievements:
The students got to voice the things that they plan on “doing scared’ which was very encouraging.
