Success stories from our Bursary Program

Why do you go to school?

This question leads to an amazing insight into the dreams and ambitions of our highschool-students from the Bursary Program. In 2020, six of our form four beneficiaries in High School who sat for their KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education), got direct entry into some of the most amazing colleges in the country! This allowed them to be government sponsored, which means they are receiving partial scholarships during their time of studies.

The news came with great joy, looking at the dedication and motivation the students put into their work to ensure they emerged among the best! They have also been selected to pursue amazing courses and were really thrilled to start this new chapter in their lives. Here are the students that we are talking about:

  • Brian Ogallo -JKUAT- Bsc. Agricultural technology & Biosystems engineering
  • Joshua Jacob -Moi University- Bsc. in Technology Education
  • Brian Waweru -Kabianga University- Hotel and Hospitality Management
  • Bramwel Differ -Kisii University- Criminology & security studies
  • Alice Awinjia -Eldoret Institute
  • Bruce Mackenzie -Meru Institute- Diploma in Animal Husbandry

Brian Ogallo is pursuing engineering at JKUAT and had this to say:
“I thank my high-school bursary for this great achievement. It’s so amazing to see one’s dream come true! I am grateful to all those who contributed to my success at high school level and I would like to let you all know that through perseverance, patience and determination, one can not have it wrong.”

Joshua Jacobs, Technology Education at MOi, also added: “As for me, I just want to say thank you to the Korando family and BetterMe as a whole team. You guys played a key role in enabling me to be where I am today! May the Almighty God bless you and Mama Dolfine. She was kind enough to have us with her under her umbrella, consistently advising and reminding us to focus on our studies.”

Lot’s of gratitude to our sponsors and partners, who have made all this a possibility. The kids are clearly shaping their future and it’s because of your belief in what we do at Korando and your incredible support! Infact, moving forward, we are expecting even more beneficiaries to transition to direct entry into colleges thanks to our partners!

As St. Francis of Assisi says, for it is in giving that we receive. We say thank you to all of our students for giving us joy and making us proud. We now let you all, together with all our lovely students who finished High school, go forth in the world, pursue your dreams and make the best of it!
