Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The purpose of this activity was to train the students to talk in front of an audience as part of the “Life Skills” project. This can be relevant for oral examinations, future assignments at a university, job applications or even in a job. Since this session covers a talk in front of the audience it was held as such one. From the list of things advised to do or to avoid some simple examples were demonstrated visually as part of the speech. Amongst others the following topics were covered:

– how to practice
– how to handle prepared notes
– how to build / keep up self-esteem
– body language and general appearance
– interaction with the audience and eye contact
– techniques (pace, tone, pausing)
– learn online from other speakers

Personnel Input:
Volunteer brought in personal experience from multiple trainings and speeches as a professional IT consultant. Also, training materials from other professional speakers were used. These materials are publicly available with no license needed.

Achievements:
Students understood what it means to speak to not well known or unknown persons. Or in public / in front of an audience, respectively. Also, they could learn what they can do to prepare themselves in advance.

Unanticipated Achievements:
This topic seemed to be very interesting to the students. They gratefully followed at all times.
