Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Had an English session with the young kids. We discussed hospitals and their vocabulary, and I provided them with many hospital-related words. We also translated the words into Swahili to help them understand better. Then, we gave them the opportunity to share more hospital-related words they knew and helped translate them into Swahili. We showed them pictures of hospital tools and equipment to familiarize them with the items before ending the session.
Personnel Input:
Organized the kids, then conducted the class. Gave them the different vocabularies found within the hospital and, at the same time, did the translation of the words into Swahili for the kids to understand better. We then gave them a chance to also participate and give us more vocabularies, then made sentences using the different vocabularies.
Achievements:
We successfully familiarized the children with hospital terminology and fully informed them about what we offer in the hospital.
Unanticipated Achievements:
The children were able to understand most of the hospital vocabulary without any translation, which was very encouraging as it indicated that their learning skills, knowledge, and understanding were improving.
