The Children’s Advisory Committee is a body established under Section 41 of the Children Act 2022 to regulate, coordinate, and oversee children’s services. The Council is also mandated to advise the Government on all matters relating to children in Kenya.
As a key player in matters relating to child welfare and protection, Better Me occupies a seat on the Kisumu West Sub County Children’s Advisory Committee.

Personnel Input:
Thomas Ogalo and Samambo Johannes attended the meeting as members of the committee. The group discussed various issues affecting the children of Kisumu County, including social protection and education matters.

Achievements:
– Discussed with other stakeholders who provide bursary support to children attending high schools and colleges. The main focus was on ensuring that there was no duplication of support, preventing children from receiving double support from different bursaries.
– We raised concerns over an area that was becoming increasingly insecure. The Deputy County Commissioner promised to act quickly to resolve this issue.
– We discussed the celebration of the Day of the African Child in June. All participants agreed that it was a crucial day and we should plan for it accordingly.

Unanticipated Achievements:
We successfully received support for an ongoing case involving a child who had been harmed and had not received proper assistance from government authorities.

Supporting Partners:
Department of Children Services, Ministry of Interior, CARE Kenya, ACE Africa, other Civil Societies Organizations
