Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Considering that this is a globally recognized day, celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, we deliberately directed our attention towards determining if rural women were aware of the existence of such a day and, if so, why it should be celebrated. Their diverse views on this matter were enlightening, and they also shared the challenges they face in the community. We engaged in a meaningful discussion, and the women formally requested that similar discussions with positive intentions be conducted regularly. Additionally, each group shared their challenges and brainstormed possible solutions to help them make progress within the community.
Personnel Input:
We assisted two partners in identifying a suitable community where we could host the celebration. Additionally, we played a role in mobilizing women from the community to attend the event.
Achievements:
Partnering with Sapphire community group, a UK-based organization, and Jijenge, who provided significant support in organizing the event, we had a platform to engage with women, some of whom are caregivers in our bursary program. This engagement allowed us to gain insights into the challenges they face before conducting household visits. The women expressed a desire to continue having such community dialogues regularly.
Unanticipated Achievements:
Women engaged in business expressed their interest in receiving support with financial literacy skills to enhance their business operations. Additionally, some of those who have been exposed to our household empowerment project demonstrated keen interest in participating in the kitchen garden model of agribusiness.
Supporting Partners:
Sapphire Community Group and Jijenge Youth Group.
