Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Life Skill Session on the topic “Feelings”

Personnel Input:
We checked in with them on the topic that we discussed the week before, which was friendship and trust. Then, we sang the same song from last week to get them started.

To begin the discussion on the topic, we created a big mind map on the board where we collected all the feelings that the students were experiencing at that moment or knew about. Continuing on, we played a game in which 10 volunteers came to the front to express different feelings as a group, and the rest of the class had to guess which feeling it was. After that, the students were asked to draw smileys representing four different kinds of feelings, and we introduced different tools to help them cope with overwhelming emotions. In the end, we sang a Bob Marley song.

Achievements:
Improving their vocabulary to express feelings and providing them with ideas on how to cope with overwhelming emotions.

Unanticipated Achievements:
They remembered the song from last week very well.

Lessons Learned:
Some of the students were sent home to collect their school fees, which is why we had only one class consisting of students from grades 5 to 8. This had a significant impact on the confidence of most of the students. They weren’t as active and involved as in previous weeks, and they seemed more shy and insecure when speaking freely in front of others. Lesson learned: Always separate the groups, even when there are fewer students, because the impact of our lessons is much greater that way.

Next Steps:
Dive deeper into the topic of feelings and empathy.
