Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We have been holding sessions at the fire department occasionally, and they have made a formal request to have a monthly session on the last Friday of every month. To kick it off, we are ending Mental Awareness Month with a focus on prioritizing mental health and wellbeing. We introduced our session with an activity called “speed dating,” where we played background music during intervals and participants had 2 minutes to meet different people in pairs and answer questions to get to know each other better.

We also asked questions to understand the nature of a firefighter’s work routine on a day-to-day basis and their priorities when responding to an emergency call. This was to help us understand what it means to be a firefighter and the importance of critical thinking and decision-making skills. We also discussed the importance of counseling sessions for the fire department.
