Start Time: 10:00 AM   End Time: 12:00 PM

Number of Participants: 12

Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The session’s topic was the non-verbal communication.

Personnel Input:
We started with a definition of communication and talked about the four main types of communication we use on a daily basis: verbal, nonverbal, written and visual. After that we concentrated more on the body language which is related to the non-verbal communication.
We showed the children two short animation videos (“Mouse for Sale”, “For the Birds”) in which the characters were just using their bodylanguage to communicate. We analyzed their way of non-verbal communication. At the end of the session we played charade in which they were just allowed to make use of their body language.

After the session we planted a kitchen vegetable garden for the Remand Home together with the children. This project anticipates to support the nutrition of the children and establish skills to grow ones own food.

Achievements:
We taught the children how to communicate non-verbally. So that they are able to give their messages more impact, being able to read others’ signs, to use your body to communicate and to pick up on unspoken emotions and reactions.

The children enjoyed participating in the gardening activity.

Unanticipated Achievements:
At the beginning they were shy but at the end of the session, we could see that they understood the topic.
