Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We taught 15 words from a chapter book we are going to be reading using charades, discussions, and worksheets.
Personnel Input:
Zoey and Cintia planned and taught the lesson for the day. They explained and facilitated charades, the group discussion, and assisted when needed on the worksheets. Spencer helped translate when directions were unclear.
Achievements:
On a group level we achieved understanding of 15 English words, their meanings, how to conjugate them to fit a sentence, and how to use them correctly in a sentance. On a more individual level there were kids who achieved the understanding of the difference of “CH” and “SH” sounds, and worked on sounding out basic vocabulary.
Unanticipated Achievements:
One positive surprise is that many of the boys were able to complete the worksheet with almost 100% accuracy after learning all of the words. Another positive surprise that came is that some of the kids who have less of a basis in English have been working on sounding out words while not in session and have made sifnigicant improvements.
