Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Two initial computer classes for the 7th grade at the Korando Educational Center in 2024 were held, similar to grade 8. After a short introduction by the volunteer we started an open discussion about computers in general. This has included the following topics:

– concept of a computer
– types and characteristics of a computer
– functions of a computer (how a computer works in general)
– advantages & disadvantages of using computers
– areas of computer usage (in general)
– computer hardware

Technical facts and functions were also demonstrated and explained by simple examples, for instance how the input/output looks in practice.

Personnel Input:
Volunteer brought in personal experience from multiple trainings as a professional IT consultant to host training / educational sessions. Also, experience from classes with grade 8 was very helpful. Technical items such as a laptop, smartphone and smartwatch were used to illustrate the variety of computer usage in modern times.

Achievements:
These sessions can be seen as a friendly getting to know each other, covering basics in terms of computers. Given the reactions from students they obviously have learned new facts and got a better understanding or a general understanding. In general students cooperated well.

Unanticipated Achievements:
The grade has happily welcomed the volunteering teacher by standing up and greeting loud but very friendly.
