Foreword

BOARD OF DIRECTORS, BETTER ME E.V.

Dear readers,

2020 was marked by the coronavirus pandemic and unfortunately the marginalized members of our society were hit hardest. In Kenya, schools were closed for 9 months and the country was and is under lockdown. The health and social consequences of this pandemic are an incredibly heavy blow to Kenya and our beneficiaries in Kisumu.

Thanks to our incredible team in Kenya, we were able to react quickly to the pandemic and adapted our projects to the new situation. We launched the Kenya Households Upliftment Program (KHUP), which provided aid packages to 120 households. We also launched the Youth Upliftment Mentorship Program (YUMP) to help our beneficiaries cope better with psychosocial stress. And together with our partners and other local organizations, we started Homeless of Kisumu (HoK). The initiative supported over 300 street children with various programs.

We have also gained a new partner organization with the Armstrong Women Empowerment Center and together we reached over 380 young women and adolescent girls.
Without your great support, dear readers, none of this would have been possible. We thank you for that! And despite all the joy of our successful work, we are aware that the challenges have not diminished. We use this as an incentive to continue to give our best.

With kind regards,
Torsten Kremser, Simon Kühnert and Gudrun Kremser
