Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We decided to go with grade 3 today. We divided the group into two again and continued practicing swimming on their backs correctly. After this, we started to learn how to swim on their stomachs facing down. At the end of the lesson, they had another 10 minutes of playtime.

Personnel Input:
We went swimming with the 3rd graders this time and didn’t stick to the schedule because the other classes were participating in different sports events. It had been a while since their last class, so we repeated some exercises on their back. Surprisingly, they found it easier than we expected. That’s why we decided to try some new exercises, which turned out to be more challenging for them. For the first one, they put the swimming noodle under their shoulders and tried to float with kickbacks. The next one involved holding the swimming noodle like a scarf behind their neck, and the last exercise was to hold the swimming noodle with straight arms while swimming. We did these exercises in this order to gradually reduce the support of the swimming noodle. After this, we started to explain how to swim in the prone position. We explained the correct arm movements and the kids tried to do this at the edge of the pool. Then they lay on the swimming noodle with their stomach and tried to do the arm movement while floating. In the end, we played in the water, but we had to leave the pool a bit earlier due to the weather.

Achievements:
No one is afraid of the water anymore, and everyone has built strong water confidence. They adapted to the new swimming techniques on their stomachs much faster than at the beginning, which means they now know how to move their bodies in the water. This progress will make it easier for them to learn even more in the upcoming lessons.

Unanticipated Achievements:
Most of the kids were able to swim on their backs on their own, with just a little support from the swimming noodle. This is a huge success, especially considering we’ve only been doing the swimming classes for a month and a half. It’s not a long period of time to learn how to swim, so we’re really proud of their progress.
