Activity Purpose/ Summary:
In our first session with four girls from the Kisumu Rehabilitation Centre, we delved into the topic “Being the Best Version of Yourself.” This discussion was designed to help the girls understand the concept of self, emphasizing the importance of staying true to their values, interests, and passions as the driving force in their lives. We explored the idea that authentic self-discovery is a challenging yet vital journey that requires courage and tenacity. The session highlighted the significance of turning away from false beliefs that distort self-perception, reminding the girls that their uniqueness sets them apart. We also stressed that success cannot be measured against someone else’s life path, as each individual has different dreams, passions, and skills. Ultimately, we reinforced the notion that there is no universal roadmap or ideal outcome in life; each person’s path is uniquely their own.
Personnel Input:
Our facilitators effectively engaged the girls, creating a safe and open environment that encouraged honest reflection and discussion. We used interactive activities and discussions to help the girls connect with the material, fostering a deeper understanding of the concepts presented. The facilitators’ ability to relate to the girls’ experiences and challenges was instrumental in building trust and rapport.
Achievements:
The session successfully introduced the concept of self-discovery and the importance of staying true to one’s values and passions. The girls actively participated in the discussions, showing a growing awareness of their own uniqueness and the significance of self-awareness. This session also set the stage for future conversations on personal growth and development.
Unanticipated Achievements:
An unexpected outcome was the level of openness and vulnerability displayed by the girls during the session. They shared personal experiences and challenges, which not only enriched the discussion but also created a stronger sense of community among the participants. This openness was a testament to the trust and comfort they felt in the environment we created.
