Dear Readers,
Ten years of Better Me, ten years of courage, growth and solidarity in action between Germany and Kenya. What began in 2015 as a vision centred around Korando Educational Centre has grown into a strong community that reaches thousands of children and young people every year. For us, 2025 was therefore not only an anniversary year, but also a year of honesty, unity and renewed direction.
We celebrated significant progress: more than 20,000 beneficiaries reached across Kisumu, 40 dedicated volunteers from around the world, 114 young people supported in accessing secondary education through our SHAPE Fund, thousands of young people engaged through our YUMP programmes, and new milestones such as the computer lab in Korando. These achievements demonstrate that meaningful impact is created when people take responsibility.
At the same time, 2025 was financially challenging. With income of €92,413 and expenditure of €99,431, we ended the year with a deficit. In this situation, the “Six Months of Hope” campaign became a powerful expression of our community. It did more than mobilise funds, it provided stability. For this, we are deeply grateful.
For us, ten years do not represent a point of rest, but a responsibility for the decade ahead. We will continue strengthening our structures, building new partnerships and diversifying our funding base to secure our programmes for the long term.
What sustains us remains unchanged: our belief in the potential of every child. Education, psychosocial support and genuine human relationships are the keys to lasting change.
