With the support of sponsors, volunteers, and donors, we run four programmes in Kisumu, Kenya — focused on education, life skills, culture, and sport. We see Kenya's new generation as facilitators of positive change, and our work is built to unlock that potential.

Every programme we run targets a different dimension of a child's development — but they all share the same goal: a better future.
Korando Educational Centre
Korando is both a school and a boarding home for orphaned and vulnerable children ~20 km outside Kisumu. We fund school operations, daily meals, dormitories, psychosocial support, and infrastructure improvements — ensuring every child has what they need to learn and grow.

YUMP — Youth Unleashed
YUMP (Youth Unleashed Mindset & Purpose) brings life skills and emotional wellness into high schools across the region. Through sessions, holiday camps, and community events, young people discover their purpose and build the resilience to act on it.

Dance Center — Bridges of Cultures
Regular dance training 3–5 times a week builds confidence, stage presence, and discipline. The programme culminates in international exchange — connecting children from Kisumu with peers in Austria and beyond. Dancing together, bridging worlds.

Play4Change
A football-based youth development programme implemented by Better Me with support from the FIFA Foundation. The programme focuses on teamwork, leadership, fair play, conflict resolution, personal goal-setting, and positive decision-making, while also using sport as a tool for recreation, healing, and social connection.

Kisumu is Kenya's third-largest city — and one of its most underserved. Around half of all households fall below the poverty line, with roughly 60% of residents living in informal settlements. Access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunity is far from guaranteed.
This is the context our programmes operate in. Not to manage poverty, but to disrupt it — by investing in children and young people who will go on to create change in their own communities.
The Better Me compound
Our Kisumu office sits on the grounds of Korando Educational Centre — a shared base for our Kenyan staff, visiting volunteers, and the programmes we run across the region.

International volunteers join work that is already happening — supporting Kenyan staff and partner organisations rather than replacing them. You contribute where your skills and interests fit current programme needs, working alongside the local team.
Volunteers come from many backgrounds: teachers, coaches, social workers, creatives, students, professionals on a career break. If you have a few weeks or months and want a hands-on experience beyond the tourist trail, we'd love to hear from you.
