Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We participated in the International Environmental Day event in Nyalenda, Kisumu. Most of the day was dedicated to community clean-up activities, including street cleaning in Nyalenda and tree planting to enhance environmental conservation. The event brought together key stakeholders, showcasing a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and community-driven action.
Personnel Input:
The involvement of Better Me made the Environmental Day event more valuable and worthwhile. Since Better Me is devoted to advancing and helping the community, the Better Me team, including volunteers and community members, joined in a major park and street clean-up movement. They provided reusable gloves, eco-friendly garbage bags, and tongs to ensure the clean-up was environmentally friendly. Through their coordinated efforts, they ensured that a significant amount of waste was collected and disposed of in ways that kept the environment safer and cleaner.
Achievements:
– Clean-up activities collected over 500 kg of waste from outdoor areas, making everything look much cleaner.
– Motivated and coordinated more volunteers to participate in activities that benefited the community and environment.
– We planted trees and native plants to protect various species and reduce the impact of carbon emissions.
– Employees received reusable bags and bottles to help decrease their plastic waste.
Unanticipated Achievements:
– Received unexpected interest from local schools to organize follow-up environmental workshops.
– Sparked new partnerships and collaborations with organizations interested in future joint events.
– Local businesses offered spontaneous support by donating refreshments and supplies for volunteers, strengthening community ties.
– Attracted local media coverage, increasing awareness and community engagement.
