Activity Purpose/ Summary:
We had the chance to visit the permaculture farm of Make Me Smile Kenya, where we gained valuable insights into their innovative and sustainable agricultural practices. During our visit, we explored their beekeeping operations, which are crucial for pollination and biodiversity, and learned about their permaculture crop rotation techniques designed to enhance soil health and productivity. We also checked out their well-maintained tree nursery, a key part of their efforts to restore the region’s natural ecosystem.
This initiative is dedicated to empowering the local community by providing education on sustainable farming methods and addressing critical environmental issues like deforestation and climate change. By promoting these practices, the project not only supports the environment but also strengthens local livelihoods.
Personnel Input:
As part of our visit, we teamed up to plant 150 trees, directly contributing to their ongoing reforestation efforts. This hands-on activity underscored the importance of community collaboration in addressing environmental challenges.
