Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The session at Ogango Primary School was a vibrant and impactful outreach designed to empower young girls with knowledge and inspiration. Kelvin kicked off the program with a powerful introduction on the theme of values, encouraging the girls to hold firmly to their self-worth no matter what challenges they might face. The team then led engaging talks on self-worth, leadership, and menstrual hygiene, helping to foster both personal growth and practical life skills. This event was organized by a Better Me SHAPE beneficiary, showing the positive ripple effect of the program as beneficiaries took the initiative to give back to their community. The atmosphere was lively, uplifting, and left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
Personnel Input:
Kelvin’s introduction set a strong, motivational tone, ensuring the audience was mentally and emotionally receptive to the discussions that followed. The facilitators from Better Me brought a blend of mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and real-life experiences, making the topics relatable for the girls. Cecilia, the SHAPE beneficiary and event organizer, played a pivotal role in planning, mobilizing, and connecting with the school. The team’s joint effort created a safe, open environment for learning and dialogue.
Achievements:
The session successfully equipped the girls with practical knowledge about menstrual hygiene, which is crucial for their health and dignity. It also boosted their confidence by reinforcing messages of self-worth and leadership. Notably, the event was initiated by a SHAPE beneficiary, highlighting the program’s success in fostering leadership and a sense of community responsibility among its participants. Additionally, the session strengthened Better Me’s presence and relationship within the local school community.
Unanticipated Achievements:
One unexpected success was the level of inspiration drawn from the SHAPE beneficiary’s leadership role, which served as a real-life example to the girls of how mentorship can shape future leaders. Another pleasant surprise was the high level of engagement from the girls, many of whom expressed excitement to share what they learned with peers who couldn’t attend. The event also opened doors for potential follow-up collaborations with Ogango Primary School.
