Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The retooling exercise, organized by the Curriculum Support Officer for Otonglo Zone, took place on January 23rd and 24th, 2025, at Hampshire School, located opposite Kisumu airport. It brought together Junior Secondary School teachers in the zone to enhance their curriculum implementation and professional development capacity.
The core objectives of the exercise included:
1. Equipping teachers with skills for implementing the rationalized Junior Secondary School Curriculum.
2. Ensuring adherence to quality standards and proper documentation of learning tools and materials.
3. Promoting learner-centered competencies.
4. Providing career path guidance to Grade 9 learners as they transition to Senior Secondary schools.
Personnel Input:
Three teachers from Korando Educational Center, supported by Better Me, participated in this exercise, actively engaging in all sessions and discussions.
Achievements:
– Improved understanding of the streamlined Junior Secondary School Curriculum.
– Enhanced skills in professional documentation and adherence to quality standards.
– Knowledge of learner-centered teaching approaches and career guidance strategies for Grade 9 learners.
Unanticipated Achievements:
– Networking opportunities with teachers from other schools in the zone, fostering collaboration and shared learning.
– Exposure to innovative strategies used in other schools for career guidance and curriculum implementation.
