Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Participate in the second matchday of the youth league and use the momentum from the game to engage the entire Nyalenda Youngstars Football Club in a post-match training and reflection session. The day also included a valuable knowledge exchange between community coaches, FIFA referees, and our players.
Personnel Input:
Better Me supported the organization of the matchday, coordinated the logistics for team participation, and facilitated the post-match training session for under-10 and under-15 boys and girls. Additionally, Better Me assisted in the community dialogue with coaches and referees.
Achievements:
– Nyalenda Youngstars secured a 4-0 win, maintaining a clean sheet and building on their impressive 11-2 victory from the previous week.
– There’s been a noticeable increase in community support and attendance, with more people from the slums coming out to watch and cheer.
– The players displayed a positive team spirit, discipline, and tactical awareness.
– We organized a full-club training session for the under-10 and under-15 teams (boys and girls), focusing on learning from the senior team’s performance.
– We encouraged peer-to-peer learning through a sharing circle where young players reflected on the senior team’s game.
– We conducted a meaningful engagement session between community coaches and FIFA referees, fostering mutual learning and capacity building.
Unanticipated Achievements:
The growing fanbase and support from the community have begun to change perceptions of youth football as a tool for transformation in the slums.
The post-match reflection exercise has become an inspiring platform for younger players to set personal development goals.
