Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The session focused on Henri Matisse’s water projects, where children created their own colorful interpretations inspired by his style. The kids had the freedom to choose their colors, allowing them to express their creativity freely. Guidance was provided on using cut-out shapes and bold colors, which are key elements of Matisse’s technique. The children worked on individual pieces, exploring composition, contrast, and texture through their artworks. A brief discussion on Matisse’s inspiration, techniques, and artistic impact was included to deepen their understanding.

Personnel Input:
The facilitators, along with Natalie who joined virtually, played an active role in guiding the children throughout the session. They provided demonstrations on using cut-outs and arranging shapes creatively, ensuring the children grasped key artistic principles. One-on-one guidance was offered to help the kids experiment with different color combinations and layering techniques. Encouragement and feedback were also given to boost confidence and personal artistic expression among the children, fostering a positive learning environment.

Achievements:
The children’s projects turned out vibrant, unique, and well-executed, reflecting their understanding of Matisse’s style. They demonstrated enhanced creativity, with each child showcasing their personality through their choice of colors and shapes.

Unanticipated Achievements:
Some children developed unique patterns and shapes beyond the expected cutouts, demonstrating a deeper understanding of design.
