Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The purpose of the Impact for Change football tournament was to use sports as a platform for youth engagement, mentorship, and community empowerment. The event aimed to bring together boys, girls, and community members in a safe and interactive environment where football was combined with life skills education, mentorship, and positive social development.
Through the Play4Change project, supported by the FIFA Foundation, Better Me Kenya participated in the three-day event held in Kobura, Ahero, Kisumu County, offering mentorship sessions and community engagement activities alongside football matches.
The event attracted around 600 attendees and created opportunities to address issues affecting young people, encourage positive behavior change, strengthen community partnerships, and highlight the role of sports in social transformation. It also provided a platform for collaboration with local churches and like-minded stakeholders committed to youth development and community impact.
Personnel Input:
Organizing and contributing to mentorship sessions and community engagement activities in addition to football matches.
Achievements:
– Successfully participated in the four-day Impact for Change football tournament in Kobura, Ahero, Kisumu County.
– Engaged approximately 600 participants, including boys, girls, youth, and community members.
– Integrated mentorship sessions with football activities, creating a holistic and engaging learning environment.
– Facilitated impactful mentorship sessions led by Kelvin and Ruth, focusing on youth empowerment and positive life choices.

Unanticipated Achievements:
– Formation of new partnerships and networks with the host church and other community stakeholders, going beyond the original expectations for the activity.
– Community turnout exceeded expectations, with around 600 attendees actively participating over the four-day event.
– Growing interest from community members and leaders in future mentorship and sports-based initiatives in the area.
– A stronger platform was created for community dialogue and interaction among youth, mentors, church leaders, and organizers.
