Activity Purpose/ Summary:
The purpose of these activities was to continue the current work of preparing 10 fourth-grade students to pass their final national exam in German. This included several rounds of comprehensive understanding based on existing materials and those provided by volunteers. Another focus was reinforcing specific grammar skills such as conjugation, cases, and separable verbs. On several occasions, vocabulary updates were provided.
Personnel Input:
The volunteer has prepared the classes in alignment with the teacher’s requirements. This includes several materials for comprehensive understanding. Where needed, the volunteer and teacher have collaborated to create questionnaires related to stories being read or listened to by the students in German. The volunteer has also fixed existing learning materials and explained them to the students as needed. Some learning materials provided by the volunteer required proper research before the class to ensure that grammar rules are explained correctly in English. Additionally, the volunteer used their own hardware, including a laptop and a mobile device, for on-premise research.
Achievements:
Students have significantly enhanced their skills in open discussions in a foreign language (German) and their comprehension of stories, whether read or heard in German. They have also improved their grammar skills, including conjugation, cases, and separable verbs. Throughout, they have consistently learned new vocabulary based on their interests.
Unanticipated Achievements:
The relationship between students and volunteers becomes more open and friendly each time we meet.
