Activity Purpose/ Summary:
On October 23, 2024, we teamed up with the Brighter Future initiative for their charity drive and mentorship session at Nyatege Primary School. The event aimed to offer emotional support and essential supplies to girls in grades 1 through 8, addressing the needs of students in a remote area with limited access to basic resources.

The mentorship session was all about empowering and encouraging the girls to pursue their education and set positive goals. We covered topics like values, self-esteem, resilience, and the importance of education. After the session, we handed out dignity packs, which included sanitary pads, school uniforms, and other basic essentials. These resources were crucial, as many girls lacked consistent access to sanitary products and uniforms.

The support we provided was warmly received by the school administration, who emphasized the transformative impact of such interventions on the students’ attendance, confidence, and academic performance. This initiative reinforced our commitment to bridging gaps in access to basic needs for young girls, fostering a supportive environment for their growth and development.

Personnel Input:
Samambo and Kelvin facilitated the mentorship program, guiding the girls through empowering discussions and activities.

Achievements:
– The girls received guidance and encouragement to confidently pursue their education, helping to build self-esteem and resilience. Samambo and Kelvin’s mentorship created a supportive environment where the girls felt inspired to set personal and academic goals.
– The distribution of dignity packs, containing sanitary pads, school uniforms, and other essentials, addressed a critical need, especially in a remote area like Chiga where access to these items is often limited. This support can lead to improved attendance, as students are less likely to miss school due to a lack of sanitary products or proper uniforms.
– By partnering with the Brighter Future initiative, we strengthened connections with the local community and demonstrated our commitment to supporting vulnerable groups in the region. The activity also showcased the impact of collaboration in addressing social and educational challenges.

Unanticipated Achievements:
Samambo and Kelvin’s active involvement as lead facilitators fostered stronger bonds with the students, creating a trusting atmosphere. This positive rapport not only made the mentorship sessions more impactful but also inspired facilitators to become more invested in future similar engagements. The activity attracted attention from parents and community members, who expressed appreciation for the intervention. This unexpected local interest has opened up the possibility of ongoing support and collaboration from community stakeholders to address the needs of Nyatege Primary School.
