Activity Purpose/ Summary:
Better Me successfully facilitated the repatriation of four children from the Kisumu Children Remand Home to their home country, Uganda. The children had been under care and protection at the institution after being rescued from the streets of Kisumu. Following the issuance of court orders authorizing their repatriation, Kisumu Children Remand Home assigned Better Me to oversee the entire process.
The process involved close coordination with the Kisumu Children Remand Home, Busia County Children’s Office, and the Uganda Immigration Office to ensure a smooth and safe transfer. The children were handed over from Kisumu to Busia, where all necessary documentation and cross-border procedures were completed. Upon arrival in Uganda, the Immigration Office took custody of the children and will support their reunification with their families.
This collaborative effort highlighted strong inter-agency coordination and reinforced Better Me’s commitment to child protection, cross-border collaboration, and family reunification for vulnerable children.
Personnel Input:
Samambo played the role of designated driver for the day and also acted as the case worker.
Achievements:
1. Four children were safely transferred from Kisumu Children Remand Home in Kenya to Uganda, marking a successful cross-border collaboration between child protection authorities in both countries.
2. This initiative paved the way for family reunification, giving the children an opportunity to reconnect with their families and reintegrate into a supportive environment.
Unanticipated Achievements:
The exercise demonstrated strong partnership and coordination among the Kisumu Children Remand Home, the Busia County Children’s Office, the Uganda Immigration Office, and Better Me, ensuring a smooth and well-documented process.
